Sleeping
Sleeping is great, especially after a long day cycling, strolling around bazaars or lying at the beach. Everything we need to make ourselves comfortably we carry with us. Our journey will take us through different countries and climates. It depends on the country where and how we sleep, camping or in a small lodge.
CAMPING
We really enjoy camping with our own little tent. Small campsites in France, at a farm someplace or in the middle of the Swedish wild. When on the road there are plenty of options and we will enjoy every one of them. The moment we don’t pass a city or village camping will be our only option.
TENT
After 3 years of faithful service of our MSR Velo tent we've had to get a new tent. Now we're sleeping in a Hilleberg Nammatj2 GT. It's a tunneltent with a spacious canopy. The tent is build to resist all kinds of weather and keeps us dry and warm. With 3.5 kilos it's lighter than our previous tent and also the packing volume is smaller.
MATTRESSES
We have both the same mattresses. They are the Ultraligth made by Therma Rest. These are self-inflating mattresses and are light and comfortable. The great advantage is that they don't take a lot of space because of their size.
SLEEPING BAGS
We both have a different sleeping bag. Marlous has got an Ajungilak Compact. This is a sleeping bag with synthetic fibers inside. The outer fabric is made of Pertex. The Ajungilak is a 3 season's sleeping bag. Steven has got a Highlight 550. This sleeping bag has 90% goose down filling. The Highlight is a 3 season's sleeping bag as well.
NOT IN THE TENT
There are moments that we’re not sleeping in our tent. This depends on country, temperature and safety. If we’re not sleeping in the tent we’ll sleep in a small hotel, lodge or at someone’s home. Sometimes we’ll sleep on our own mattresses while we lie in our sleeping bags. At other moments we’ll be sleeping as king and queen on a well made bed.
COTTON SHEET
When it’s to hot to sleep in a sleeping bag we’ll use our sleeping bag of cotton. This is a sort a bed sheet but made like a sleeping bag. Most of the times we prefer this cotton bag because of dirty linen in the hotels. We also use our own pillow cases.
MOSQUITO NET
There are countries where there’s a non-stop buzzing of mosquitoes at night. We don’t really like this but rather enjoy some shelter during the night. A mosquito net provides us with this shelter and keeps all the buzzing outside. It’s also a good prevention against malaria.
