CASH
In the Netherlands we’re used to paying everything with card. We always use the card in shops because it’s easy to use and always possible. In a lot of countries this is not common and we need to use cash. We will try to travel with not to much cash with us in case of theft. Because we don’t want to carry to much cash we’ve been looking for ways to do our banking.

POSTBANK.NL
We both have an account with the “Postbank” a Dutch bank. Here they provide us with internet banking which makes it easy for us to do our banking online. Both our accounts are in one internet account to give us the opportunity to do our banking for both accounts at one time.

PLASTIC
We both carry a card from our current account. We can use these cards normally at every ATM that is logged on to the “Cirrus and Maestro” network. This way we can take cash in every country in the bigger cities. Up till now the only country where we couldn’t use our cards was Iran. Here there is no international ATM network because of the embargo.

CREDITCARD
Besides our “Cirrus and Maestro” cards we also have a credit card with us. Normally we only use this credit card when we cannot collect money with our ATM cards. With the credit cards we can also go to a bank and get a cash advance.

WHAT ELSE..
Besides all the options mentioned before, we also gave our parents written permission to do our banking for us. This way we can ask them to do some emergency banking if we cannot do it ourselves.
