Noble House Nepal

NOBLE HOUSE
A lot of children in Nepal wander around the streets or the fields. They often don’t have parents, can be found as targets of prostitution or end up in other strange businesses. In April 2005 ‘Stichting HON’ started to build a house for these children without a future.

At the moment there are 16 children who can live in the house. Besides this there are children from outside who can get care by having a shower, clothes and food. All the children also get the change to go to school. The children are in the age from 3 till 14 and at the moment most of them are girls. Thanks to the Nepalese couple, Utsab and Sita, the house became a family house where the Nepalese customs are used.

ABOUT STICHTING HON
“Stichting Hulp Onaanraakbare Nepal” (Foundation Help Untouchables Nepal) is founded by three Dutch people who returned from a holiday in Nepal. They were impressed by the poor circumstances in which the children live who are born as the Untouchebles.

Since 2000 Stichting HON is active in Nepal by supporting the children of the untouchable caste. They now support around 30 kids in diffrent ages. Stichting HON wants to give these children a brighter future trough knowledge and development. There is also help for families, schools and small villages.

The main point is not to make the people dependant but to increase the independency by giving knowledge, schooling and cooperating with the people. By support of a lot of people and some good actions there is collected enough money to build the children’s home: the Noble House.

OUR EXPERIENCES
After 14000 kilometers cycling we arrived at the Noble House on the 31st of March to help Utsab and Sita. During our stay the number of children living in the house grew from 4 to 10. Besides these children there are kids from the surrounding area who come for food and schooling. It’s great to see a child change from the moment he or she starts to live in the house. Often changes are noticeable after a couple of days with good food, sleep and care. For all these children it’s a new experience to sleep in a real bed, get new clothes and to go to school with a full stomach.

During our stay we’ve seen that all the children really need a lot of attention, love and care. There hasn’t been a moment that we didn’t have a child sitting on our lap and all the others standing around to do something with us. We’ve been hugging, playing, laughing and soothing. Every child showed a lot of progress and all could to it in their own way. A beautiful example is Bunu-Maya: a 5-year-old girl from the mountains. She went with her parents to the fields where they were working or she stayed at home alone. When she arrived at the Noble House she could only speak her own language, she couldn’t walk well and she didn’t know how to laugh or cry. In a few months we saw her develop a lot. Now she runs around the house, she speaks Nepali and English and she has a lot of fun. Bunu discovered what it is to be a child and she enjoys every minute of it. She is one of the great examples for us why the Noble House is so important!

We had a wonderful time with the children and we will never forget them and the Noble House.

THE FUTURE
The foundation will continue and is always active to provide the best care they can give to the children in Nepal. At the moment there are plans to build a new school in an area where there is no education. They want to extend the Noble House as well to make it possible to give a roof to more children. For more information about the plans of the future or about the Noble House in general you can have a look on the website Engely.nl or Stichting HON.
